1st 30 seconds are key to keep the audience hooked.
Stimulating eyes aswell as ears.
Plan/ block off before shooting
PLAN PLAN PLAN
Don't necessarily match lyrics to visuals
Shoot lip syncing - 4 or 5 times in different locations
Make it different
Is the concept realistic
We are hoping to incorporate these tips into our music video in order to give it justice, ecspecially in regards to planning which may be diffictult compared to our other peices of work because instead of having to plan a 1 minute piece, we have to plan a 3 minute piece.
As of the lip syncing, we have already shot part of it in the dark room, using different angles and different lighting.
A video that we've taken inspiration from is Rihanna's music video for her song Unfaithful. From 1 minute for 1.04, we liked the idea of flashing different 'scenes' with quick fades in between. This would create a kind of flashback effect, which we think will fit well into the meaning of our chosen song, Second Time Around by Lady Gaga. We also thought that we could do a mixture of still shots and moving scenes, just to switch it up a bit.
Another idea we had was to start our video with the end shot. This would keep the audience intrigued as they would wonder what has happened previously, which would then be revealed in the video. Then we would end with the same scene, so it's almost like a loop. Our starting visual would start before the music begins however, because we like the effect this has given in other music videos.
oh oh oh yeah Babe Last time I thought we had this talk Boy you were getting ready to leave I thought that baby you were done Cause for a while you could barely look at me This time I thought that we'd be fine That I'd forget the things that you said I tried crossing out your words But baby you can not forget the past Oh oh oh oh babe Can not forget the past Oh oh oh oh, Still baby (Babe) I'm so unpredictable You don't know what to think So unemotional Wonder if I'm even still in love You see I don't know what to tell you now It's always harder the second time around I'm so unpredictable Just like you used to be So unemotional Boy I can't forget the way you were with me I don't know what to tell you now It's always harder The second time around The second time around We tried going back to Joe's That always was our favourite place Long rides baby by the coast Do you remember where we stayed Last time we where hanging out You were acting kind of strange Now it's the second time around I'm sorry now it's me that feels this way Oh oh oh oh babe (My heart just speaks to me) It's me that feels this way Oh oh oh babe I now you are the one that is hurting [ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/l/lady_gaga/second_time_around.html ] I'm so unpredictable You don't know what to think So unemotional Wonder if I'm even still in love You see I don't know what to tell you now It's always harder the second time around I'm so unpredictable Just like you used to be So unemotional Boy I can't forget the way you were with me I don't know what to tell you now It's always harder The second time around I'm not sure the best way to say this But I can't pretend to love you no more babe This ferris wheel's got me crazy Maybe the second time around is not meant for us babe Not meant for us babe hey-yeah! I'm so unpredictable You don't know what to think So unemotional Wonder if I'm even still in love You see I don't know what to tell you now It's always harder the second time around I'm so unpredictable Just like you used to be So unemotional Boy I can forget the way you were with me I don't know what to tell you now It's always harder The second time around I'm so unpredictable You don't know what to think So unemotional Wonder if I'm even still in love You see I don't know what to tell you now It's always harder the second time around I'm so unpredictable Just like you used to be So unemotional Boy I can forget the way you were with me I don't know what to tell you now It's always harder The second time around The second time around
Location
The type of location really relies on the artist and the genre of music they put out. For our song, Second time around by Lady Gaga, we think the location should be natural and outside. We want to do this because the song is quite raw in emotion and so by bringing the music video back to basics it allows the audience to concentrate on the emotion in the video. To see our location shots and ideas, please look at the recce shots. However, as well as shooting outside in a field, we are going to film ciara in the dark room studio at college.
Lighting
As we will be shooting outside for the majority of the project, we won't be needing lighting for this stage of the video. However, when we are filming in the dark room we will need a strong bold light to place on Ciara, in order to make her stand out and have the audience concentrate on her fully.
Costume
Again, as our main idea for the video is simple, Ciara will be dressed very simply, and have very simple makeup on.

Again, as our main idea for the video is simple, Ciara will be dressed very simply, and have very simple makeup on. We like Taylor Swift's basic style and will probably gain inspiration from some of her outfits that she has been seen wearing:
Props
We don't want to use many props as it will take away from the main focus of the video. However we will be using a notebook of some sort and a pen, as writing lyrics will play a part in the video.
A mixture of animation and real life to keep the audience entertained as it is more varied.
Opening of her walking down stairs
Walking through somewhere busy with the background moving faster than the singer.
By having the girl alone could be used to show her independence, or lonliness depending on the lyrics to the song.
Lights can be used to show emotions. I.e. bright colours for more upbeat, darker lighting for more sad songs.
Close ups to display emotions
Indie/Alternative Genre
With Indie bands, the videos usually consist of showing mainly the lead singer, which in the case of The Hush Sound is a female. They also quite often follow a story, depending on the lyrics of the song. The videos also usually include some scenes of the band performing the song. The indie genre often display a range of different sounds and emotions compared to some mainstream music. The videos can sometimes consist of a mixture of animation and real footage to keep the audience watching due to the fact there is more variation.
Costume ideas -
Influential videos
Paramore's video is influencial as it combines a mixture of a 'story' following the lyrics of the song. However, there are also scenes of the band performing the song which displays emotion. Close ups of the singers face also display the strong sense of how she is feeling.
Yeah Yeah Yeah's also have the same make up as The Hush Sound and Paramore, a female lead singer, with a male band. This video is mainly made up of a performance of the song, but many close ups show the different emotions on the lead singers face.
Lady Gaga - Second Time Around Initial general ideas
Beach setting
Mixture of black and white shots and colour
Pop genre
Close ups showing emotions on face.
Faded shot of guy walking along the beach, disappears.
Singing in the sea.
Discussion of pop genre and convention requirement
For upbeat songs, the setting is often a party, there are bright colours, everyones happy, cheesy, sometimes there's a story going on in the background (love interest?)
For slower pop songs, there's usually a love story throughout the video, emotional faces, raining, depressing, either end together or going their separate ways.
Influential videos
This is the direction that we want to go in our music video. This video displays quite a stereotypical love story, as its the girl that hurt the boy. However, our song is different because lady gaga is singing about her being in the wrong and the guy being fed up of it, which breaks the normal stereotype.
This video breaks the typical conventions, like we want to do, by having the girl being in the wrong when she cheats on the guy.
Location, props and costume ideas.
For the location we ideally want to set the video on a beach. However, we'd also like to have other locations, lonely places where the girl can be alone. For example, a forest, a river, somewhere natural where they can truly express how they're feeling.
Props: Guy's hoodie (she will wear this)
Bracelet
Other than that no more props are required.
